My Background
Hello, my name is Roy Kim. I am a second-generation Korean American, a high school student, and a classical vocalist currently living in Los Angeles, California. Recently, I had the honor of working on a project dedicated to honoring the Battle of Chosin Reservoir veterans.
As a Korean living in America, I feel a profound responsibility to honor the sacrifices made during the Korean War, particularly by the soldiers who fought for the freedoms we Korean Americans enjoy today. Over the years, I’ve observed Korean culture gradually fading within my communities and especially amongst my age group. I believe that preserving our heritage and traditions begins with remembering and acknowledging the individuals who shaped our history. By shedding light on pivotal events like the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, we can ensure their legacy endures.
Conversing with several Chosin Reservoir veterans has deeply inspired me. It has fueled my desire to express gratitude and the determination to keep their stories alive. For me, music has always been my way of connecting with others and a form of self-expression. I’ve come to realize that it can also serve as a powerful medium for paying tribute to these courageous heroes.
If you have any stories, memories, or historical materials related to the Battle of Chosin Reservoir whether you are a veteran who served, a family member, a descendant, or someone who personally knew those who fought we would be honored to hear from you. It doesn’t matter whether your connection is direct or distant. We welcome not only accounts of the battle itself, but also personal stories about the brave individuals who served who they were, how they lived, and how they were remembered by their loved ones. Every shared experience adds to a fuller, more human picture of what happened during that time. Together, we can carry forward the legacy and honor the memory of those who endured the harshest conditions and fought with unyielding courage at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
